This is a postdoctoral training experience in a multidisciplinary research team. The postdoc will be supervised by Dr. Stephanie Anzman-Frasca, a faculty member in the Division of Behavioral Medicine, UB Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Anzman-Frasca directs the Child Health and Behavior Lab (HABLAB; and has a background in psychology, human development, and the nutritional sciences. The HABLAB team is comprised of staff, trainees (e.g., PhD students), and undergraduate research assistants, working together to study the health and development of young children. Many of the team’s projects focus on promoting healthy child eating behaviors in family or community contexts, often applying evidence-based strategies from controlled research settings to new, naturalistic environments. The team also has an interest in individual differences (e.g., the implications of child temperament for obesity prevention research).

The postdoc will contribute to the current Restaurant Study led by Dr. Anzman-Frasca, a cluster-randomized trial, in which evidence-based strategies from the behavioral sciences (choice architecture and repeated exposure) are being used to promote healthier eating behavior among children in a local quick-service restaurant chain. Involvement in this study will include contributions to data collection in the field, as well as opportunities to work with study data and to mentor students. In addition, the postdoc would be exposed to other ongoing studies in the lab, which could provide exposure to areas such as early childhood obesity prevention, temperament, behavioral coding, responsive parenting, the relative reinforcing value of food, grocery shopping, and behavioral economics. A portion of the postdoc’s time will be allocated toward professional development activities such as conference presentation and manuscript preparation and independent pilot research. The approximate percent effort for each of these activities is: contribute to execution of Restaurant Study (50%) and engage in other professional development activities, including data analysis, manuscript preparation, and generation of new research ideas (50%).

The postdoc would have the opportunity to interact with other faculty in the Division of Behavioral Medicine, the Center for Ingestive Behavior Research, and UB, as well as Dr. Anzman-Frasca’s collaborators at other institutions. The postdoc would be included in Division-wide professional development activities, such as the biweekly "Idea Playground" where Division trainees and faculty brainstorm new research ideas together.

The target start date is July 1, 2020, but there is some flexibility if needed. The position is for two years, with the possibility of a third year depending upon interest and funding.
