The Division Director of General Internal Medicine (GIM) at JHH is a key leader in the Department of Medicine and serves as the spokesperson for the Division's faculty. The Director will oversee a diverse portfolio of clinical, research, and educational programs focused on primary care, hospital medicine, palliative care, and population health. Responsibilities include promoting faculty development, recruiting and appointing new faculty, advancing innovative care models, and planning short- and long-term strategic growth aligned with Johns Hopkins Medicine’s mission. The Division Director reports to the Director of the Department of Medicine and will work with other senior leaders as appropriate.

With over 60 full-time faculty, 15 full-time fellows, and 120 staff, JHH GIM is known for providing outstanding clinical care to patients from Baltimore and around the globe, and for being one of the most established and productive research GIM divisions in the nation. The Division’s federal research portfolio for FY25 exceeded $22.6 million. Based on the East Baltimore campus, the Division maintains close ties with the Bloomberg School of Public Health, most notably through the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, and Clinical Research, the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research, and other research centers. Investigators in the Division are heavily engaged in cross-disciplinary collaboration with researchers and clinicians in other divisions and departments.

Education is a central pillar of the Division’s mission. Many GIM faculty are nationally recognized leaders in medical education and play key roles in teaching and mentoring learners at all levels, including medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition to a longstanding research fellowship track, the Division offers a clinician-educator fellowship—one of the earliest programs of its kind—as well as specialized fellowships in weight management and women’s health. The Division also includes the Healthy Eating and Weight Management Program and the Section of Palliative Medicine, providing rich clinical and educational environments that support innovative teaching, scholarship, and multidisciplinary training.
