  • During her PhD, Sophie led an RCT to investigate the impact of high intensity intermittent training (HIIT) on cardiac structure and function in adults with Type 2 diabetes. Since then, she has been involved in a number of lifestyle trials in adults with diabetes, non-Alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), heart failure and pre-diabetes. She helped to develop content and run a trial for the digital personalised lifestyle education programme (Changing Health), recently commissioned by NHS England to deliver the biggest ever roll out of NHS type 2 diabetes support in England. This was broadcast on the BBC one ‘How to Stay Young’ programme (season 2, 2017) in which she was co-lead scientist. This show was viewed globally by over 12 million people and was in the top 5 trending hashtags on twitter. Alongside clinical research, she also works on the UK Biobank dataset, which is a cohort of >500,000 UK adults. This allows her to investigate the impact of lifestyle behaviours on a population-wide level.
