Expertise: Research focuses on the organization of various cell types in the developing heart and the possible effect on heart development of alterations in this organization. Interactions between adjacent cells and between cells and the surrounding matrix are critical in establishing the three-dimensional organization of cells within the heart. Several model systems are being used to determine the role of specific cell surface molecules, including cadherins and integrins, in these cell-cell and cell- matrix interactions during heart development.
