Dr. Mühlbauer’s research has focused on how bacteria influence the wound healing response in various injury models. With his ongoing studies he wants to get a better understanding of how commensal bacteria modulate the intestinal stem cell response in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC). The findings could lead to novel treatment options for patients suffering from IBD as well as CRC.
