A study of adenoidal involution in patients with cleft lip and palate. The focus is on the relationship of involution of the adenoid mass and velopharyngeal function. Hypernasality has been shown to occur following adenoid involution. We are studying patients over time with aerodynamic and lateral radiographic x-ray techniques, identifying those patients who are at risk for speech deterioration from adenoidal involution. (This is a joint project with Dr. John Riski, Ph.D., of Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia - formerly of Duke University).
