THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a physician and medical education leader for the role of Faculty cum Assessment Lead of the Medical Doctor (MD) program within the College of Health Sciences (CHS). The Assessment Lead for the MD program will report to the Program Director (PD) and will work closely with and support the PD with ongoing development and realization of the vision and goals of the MD Program. The Assessment Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of assessment in our medical education curriculum. This individual will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of assessment and evaluation strategies to measure the competencies and capabilities of our medical students and the overall effectiveness of our program. In addition, the Assessment Lead, when requested, will work with other leaders and colleagues across the University to pursue shared goals. The Assessment Lead will also teach formal courses in the MD program that aligns with their skillset as well as pursue research projects in their specific field of expertise. This role is expected to be 1.0 FTE.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Assessment:
- Collaborate with faculty members and curriculum manager to design assessment tools aligned with program objectives, ensuring comprehensive coverage of medical knowledge, clinical skills, professionalism, and other relevant competencies.
- Oversee the administration of formative and summative assessments throughout the program, including written exams, practical assessments, clinical exams, and standardized patient encounters. Ensure adherence to best practices and ethical standards in assessment.
- Analyze assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in student performance.
- Lead efforts to enhance the validity, reliability, and fairness of assessment.
- Review and revise assessment policy as required.
- Stay abreast of advancements in medical education assessment and recommend innovations to optimize practices.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to assessment. Coordinate documentation and reporting processes for accreditation purposes.
Program Evaluation:
- Develop mechanisms for evaluating the overall effectiveness of the curriculum.
- Ensure adherence to best practices and ethical standards in evaluation administration.
- Analyze evaluation data to identify areas for improvement in program outcomes. Generate actionable insights to inform curriculum revisions, instructional strategies, and program enhancements.
- Lead efforts to enhance the validity, reliability, and fairness of evaluation practices.
- Stay abreast of advancements in evaluation processes and recommend innovations to optimize practices.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to evaluation. Coordinate documentation and reporting processes for accreditation purposes.
Research and other services:
- Serve on different science/educational and professional committees of VinUniversity as assigned.
- For practicing physicians, the Assessment Lead will also provide clinical services (part-time) at VinUniversity affiliated teaching facilities following the best practices of the academic medical center.
- Teaching MD program courses that are within the scope of the candidate’s expertise (e.g. Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Introduction to Professionalism, etc.), as assigned.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
English is the language of teaching and communication at VinUniversity. For this role, the candidate needs to have an excellent written and verbal communication skill in English.
COMPENSATION

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Doctoral (MD) degree required, preferably from a prestigious institution.
- Strong track record in medical education program development and implementation with international standards and accreditation.
- Experience in medical education, curriculum development, or assessment and evaluation leadership roles.
- Strong understanding of assessment and evaluation principles and methodologies in medical education.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills in an academic setting.
- Verbal communication skills in Vietnamese is a plus.
- Experience in coaching/mentoring educators.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative educational team environment.
- At least five years’ successful experience in progressively responsible teaching, research, educational, and administrative leadership positions in a university setting.
- Experience with accreditation (e.g. WFME, ACGME, ACGME-I, LCME, etc.) and ranking systems such as QS preferred.
- Demonstrated successful experience in strategic planning, fiscal management, resource allocation, and personnel supervision.
- An appreciative understanding of the challenges that inevitably arise from the operation of a new University, with the patience, resilience, and ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents of an institution to effectively resolve challenges and build opportunities to promote the mission and vision of the College/University.
LIVING AND WORKING IN HANOI, VIETNAM
- Work permit: VinUniversity will assist in and provide advice for obtaining the necessary paperwork needed for employment in Vietnam (visa, work permit, insurance, etc.). However, it is your responsibility to ensure that you can satisfy all the paper requirements in a timely manner.
